Birthday Party Preparation

March 19, 2007 0 comments

Phew! What a busy weekend. I took Thursday and Friday off last week in order to prepare for a birthday party. Since "As the World Turns" was pre-empted due to March Madness, I didn't have to write the daily updates for Soaps.com on those days (Thursday and Friday) so I decided to take the days off to plan my son's birthday party. I didn't want to do things at the last minute this time, because when I wait until the last minute I'm always too pooped to enjoy the party, so I started early this year, and it worked.

I was able to rest for about an hour before guests starting arriving yesterday evening, and as a result, I too had a great time. We let everyone roast hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire, and that took care of me not having to cook; all expect for the birthday cake, which wasn't too hard. Moreover, as always, everyone enjoyed themselves, again. The kids love cooking their hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire, and the adults chat amongst themselves and laugh at the kids as they entertain us. After the party was over, the adults left and some of the kids stayed. Good thing birthdays are only once a year and I only have to give three a year. This party was for my youngest son who turned 11 on March 8. Yes, he was born three days before my birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. The next party will be for my oldest son. His birthday's October 6 so I have a few months to rest and write before that one. Of course, time will fly as usual. In fact, time has already passed too quickly for me, because I can't believe it's March already! My mom once told me the older you get the quicker time will fly, and boy was she right.

Now that all the excitement is over with, it's back to writing for me. Unbelievably, I actually miss writing when I take a few days off. There is a positive side though: It clears all the cobwebs and I'm able to brainstorm and write much better. There's a negative side as well: The work I let go -- in addition to more work -- is waiting on me with I return, and I have tons of spam in my inbox to weed through in order to get to the important e-mails. Oh how I hate spam, but don't we all. (*winks*) Speaking of the work that awaits me upon my return, I suppose I better end this and get back to that work so I can get my to-do list back down to where it supposed to be. Until next time, friends, take care and God bless you and yours. Don’t forget to comment and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy hearing from y'all.

Another Year Older and Feeling It

March 12, 2007 0 comments

Time moved forward early this year, and it just so happens that it was on my birthday. The bad news: I turned another year older one hour earlier. The good news: My birthday ended one hour earlier…LOL… I just had to say that, but it's so true. I hit the 32 mark! And boy, did I ever feel my age Saturday afternoon! My hubby took me house shopping again for my birthday, because at this point all I want is a new home, so I asked him to take me house shopping for my birthday. Anyway, we went on Saturday afternoon to two places in Mt. Vernon, IL. We walked through I don't know how many doublewides (a.k.a. modular homes), but by the end of the day I was pooped. My feet hurt from walking so much and my back was killing me. Today, my legs are sore from all the walking. Of course, that tells me I'm totally out of shape. I spend so much time sitting at my desk writing, I don't get the exercise I should be getting, and Saturday showed me how out of shape I really was. Hmm… maybe I need to make a spot on my writing schedule for some much needed exercise. I don't think it would have been too bad if we didn't walk through every single doublewide on the lots, but my husband insisted we walk through all of them. At least he treated me to a birthday supper at Ryan's in Marion, IL. afterwards. 

During our shopping adventure, we found two doublewides that we really liked. We accepted the floor plans, and then took them home to discuss which home we really want. Now that we've come to an agreement on one, it looks like my afternoon on Thursday will be spent making some phone calls. We do plan to look at a couple more lots near home, but we've pretty much covered them all, and I think we've settled on this one home, so I'll make the calls Thursday to see where we go from there. You can count on one thing, though… I will keep you up-to-date. In fact, once we get our new home, you can look forward to seeing pictures.

Well, I'll let you go for now. While blogging, I ended up with an article idea, and if I don't write that idea down and file it for later, I'll forget it. That's part of a writer's life, friends, if we think of the idea and don't record it for later, 99% of the time we forget what the idea was.

Until next time, take care, God bless and never give up on your dreams -- work toward them.

Writing and Baking

March 1, 2007 0 comments

Seems I've been very busy as usual. I've been typing out articles left and right. If you'd like to read some of my latest articles, visit me at Myspace and follow the links to the articles you're interested in viewing. In fact, remember the article I told you about here while back that WOW! Women on Writing would be publishing? Well, that article was published, and the link to it can be found at Myspace as well.

In addition to writing, my energy seems to have returned, because I've been doing some baking on my new stove. I always loved cooking, but for the past few years the stove I owned only had one working burner and the oven temperature was off. Since the stove was pretty much junk, and the oven temperature wasn't right, I didn't cook as often as I would have liked. However, now that my husband bought me a new stove as an early birthday present (March 11) I've been treating him to some homemade sugar cookies that he absolutely loves. Like the saying goes: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." ;)

I will be grocery shopping on Friday, and the first thing I'm going to do is invest in some ingredients to bake even more goodies. The sad thing is that over the years I seem to have misplaced my recipes, so now I have to make me another recipe book and would love your help. If you'd like to help by sharing some of your recipes, feel free to comment and share them with me. I'm not only looking for sweets, but I'd also love some great dinner recipes and even quick meal recipes. Moreover, I promise that when I cook the recipe you share with me, I will blog about it to let you know how good it was. I may even post a picture of the dish or dessert.

Well, I'll go for now. I hope I didn't make you too hungry, or maybe I put you in a cooking mood. :) Have a great weekend!
